Nevada Passes Medical Liability Bill
Nevada Governor
Kenny Guinn recently signed Nevada Assembly Bill No. 1. This is Nevada's first
comprehensive package addressing the medical malpractice insurance crisis. The Bill
includes several key reforms, such as a $350,000 cap on noneconomic damages, a $50,000 cap
on care provided to trauma patients, limits the "deep pockets" law and also
includes provisions to enhance patient safety.
This measure was
supported by the Nevada State Medical Association and applauded by the American Medical
Association. AMA President Elect, Donald J. Palmisano, MD, urges other state
Legislators to follow Nevada's example by enacting strong medical liability reforms and to
urge Congress to preserve patient's access to high-quality medical care by passing H.R.
4600 and S. 2793 common sense medical liability reform legislation that ensures patients
are protected and patient access is preserved.
