Physicians reminded to file HIPAA extensions

AMC/NOMA reminds all physicians to consider filing the HIPAA Extension Form/Model Compliance Form as soon as possible.  Filing the extension form is a simple process and is required to obtain an extension.  The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have not yet published promised proposed modifications to the Transaction Standard and those modifications will further revise the data submitted by the covered entity.  Covered entities that are not compliant with the Transaction Standard requirements by October 22nd of 2002 and have not filed for the extension can be excluded from the Medicare program.

Questions concerning the Extension Form/Model Compliance Form should be forwarded to the Medicare contractor serving the physician's area.  Entities requiring additional time need only to file the form online or by fax.  The Extension Form/Model Compliance Plan form can be acquired by visiting the CMS Web site at:  http://cms.hhs.gov/hipaa/hipaa2/TCSFormInstructions.asp?

DEADLINE FOR FILING THE COMPLIANCE PLAN IS OCTOBER 15th, 2002
