Information published in the Medicare Advisory August and September 2002 concerning ICD-9 information was recently clarified in the October issue. Please note the following updated information regarding ICD-9.
· The grace period is effective for claims received October 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002.
· Claims received during the grace period, for services performed October 1, 2002, through December 31, 2002, can reflect with either 2002 or 2003 ICD-9 codes.
· Claims received on and after January 1, 2003, for services performed October 1, 2002, through December 31, 2002, must reflect 2003 ICD-9 CM codes or the claim will be rejected as unprocessable. Rejected claims must be resubmitted as new claims, not as reviews.
· All other information mentioned in the August/September 2002 articles concerning ICD-9 information remains the same. For additional information, www.PalmettoGBA.com .
