FDA proposes antiterrorist food safety guidelines
The Food and Drug Administration has proposed voluntary guidelines to protect the nation's food supply against intentional contamination by terrorists. The guidelines were developed with the help of the Food Security Alliance, a consortium of food trade associations and will go to food producers, processors, transporters and retailers. Some guidelines include: criminal background checks of employees; immigration status of employees; developing an identification system, color-coded by area, of authorized access; and watching for any unusual behavior of employees who may try to gain access to files or restricted areas.
