Governor Taft Signs Medical Liability Reform Bill
On January 10, 2003 - Governor Taft signed Senate Bill 281 into
law, the medical liability-reform legislation that limits non-economic damage awards in
medical injury lawsuits as well as other key provisions of importance to physicians. The
AMC/NOMA provided testimony at every hearing and debate on SB 281 at the Statehouse.
Physicians from Northeastern Ohio representing the AMC/NOMA took the time out of their
practice to provide their testimony and assist in the passage of the legislation.
The new law is a key component in assuring that your patients in Northeastern Ohio
continue to have access to quality health care. The AMC/NOMA plans to continue to gather
information from physicians and determine what other steps may be necessary to alleviate
the medical liability crisis.
