April 14th, 2003 is the compliance deadline for HIPAA privacy
rule. Physicians should note that: a notice of privacy must be distributed and
posted; use a HIPAA compliant authorization form when using/disclosing PHI for
reasons other than treatment, payment and health care operations; implement business
associate contracts when necessary; have the staff trained about office privacy
practices; and implement internal policies and procedures related to compliance with
