The Nursing Home Quality Initiative for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services enables Medicare beneficiaries to peruse nursing home information and compare qualities of facilities when selecting a nursing home. Often, a quick decision must be made in selecting a nursing home due to unforeseen medical conditions. Information supplied from NHQI and CMS can aide in the selection process. Ohio KePRO is facilitating and administering the program in Ohio and will be working with the 1,000 nursing homes and ombudsmen in our state to improve care delivered in the facilities.
Information concerning nursing home comparisons may be found on the Web by visiting Nursing Home Compare on CMSs site at www.medicare.gov . This site allows you view information on Medicare-certified nursing homes throughout the country. You may search by state, city or zip code and obtain such information as the number of beds, type of ownership, residents needs, restraint use, available staff, bedsores and any violations.
Ohio KePRO will also aid with the understanding of any information that you encounter during your nursing home search. They may be reached at their Medicare Beneficiary Help Line at 1-800-589-7337 or Ohio KePROs Web site at www.ohiokeproinc.com.
