Physicians Need to Continue to Fight for Medical Liability Reform at the Federal Level

The American Medical Association continues its fight to fix the medical liability problem now facing the nation.  National broadcast and printed ads addressing the problem will be out this week.  Patients are losing access to trauma centers, maternity wards and rural health centers and physicians throughout the country are being affected.

Physicians' actions in West Virginia and Pennsylvania to limit the procedures they offer have caught the media's interest.  The Ohio medical liability legislation was signed by the governor on January 10, 2003, however, the federal legislation contains some provisions that are not contained in the Ohio bill.  The AMC/NOMA encourages physicians to join in the effort and write your representatives and demand congressional action to fix the medical liability crisis and pass S. 2793.  Physician members of the AMC/NOMA may send messages directly to their representatives through the AMC/NOMA web site at www.amcnoma.org
