AMCNO Asks Congress for Support of Legislation to Delay Implementation of Tamper Resistant Prescription Pads |

The AMCNO is concerned how this new rule will impact physicians and their patients. As a result, the AMCNO physician leadership has written to members of Congress representing Ohio urging them to support S 2013 and HR 3090, legislation currently in both the House and Senate that would delay the implementation of this mandate. The AMCNO letter states in part: “The rapidly approaching October 1, 2007 implementation date leaves little time for federal and state Medicaid officials to educate physicians and pharmacists about complying with the new requirement. As a result, millions of Medicaid beneficiaries may not be able to obtain their medications after October 1. This could lead to higher Medicaid costs for emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and physician office visits if medications cannot be obtained in a timely manner. This implementation time frame is unworkable, and could adversely impact the quality of care for Medicaid beneficiaries.” AMCNO will continue to provide our members with input on this issue as information becomes available. |
