AMCNO Mourns the Loss of Hermann (Bud) Menges, Jr., M.D. - AMCNO Past President |

The AMCNO staff and physician leadership were saddened to learn that Hermann (Bud) Menges, Jr., MD., Past President of the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio (AMCNO) passed away on August 26, 2010 at the age of 78. Dr. Menges was President of the AMCNO from 1985-86 and served on the AMCNO Board of Directors from 1981 to 1987. Dr. Menges was still active in the AMCNO having served as the chairman of the AMCNO Ethics Committee for many years as well as attending the AMCNO Honors Committee each year. Dr. Menges was in the clinical practice of Internal Medicine and Cardiology as well as a teacher on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (CWRU). He was one of the founders of University Suburban Health Center (USHC) and for 13 years he served as USHC’s Chairman of the Board and upon retiring from his job in 1998 his colleagues named the new health center education facility in his honor. After Dr. Menges received his undergraduate training at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York and a medical degree from CWRU, he completed fellowships in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and in Cardiology at University Hospitals. Dr. Menges served in an administrative capacity with many organizations, including the AMCNO. He was the medical director of the Midwestern National Life Insurance Company, and he served as President of the American Heart Association Northeast Ohio Affiliate. Dr. Menges was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. In 1999, Dr. Menges received the Charles A. Hudson, M.D., Distinguished Service Award from the AMCNO and in 2001 he was the recipient of the AMCNO’s highest award, the John H. Budd, M.D., Distinguished Membership Award. AMCNO Executive Vice President/CEO Elayne R. Biddlestone noted, “Working with Dr. Menges over the years has been an honor and a privilege. Dr. Menges was still active in the AMCNO and he was a staunch supporter of the AMCNO, working with us this year in order to achieve strong physician membership within the University Hospital groups. He was a great leader and an excellent communicator, and I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with him.” Services will be held at the Plymouth Church, 2860 Coventry Road, Shaker Hts., at 2 p.m. on September 3rd.
