AMCNO Participates in Interested Party Meetings Concerning SB 228

AMCNO physician leadership, lobbyists and staff have been actively participating in interested party meetings that have taken place in Columbus with regard to SB 228 – legislation that would change the scope of practice for certified registered nurse anesthetists. These meetings have been convened by the bill’s sponsor, Senator Burke in order to obtain feedback from all parties that could be impacted by this change in practice. Senator Burke is meeting with hospital representatives, medical associations and the AMCNO, and state boards to learn more about the issue and consider whether or not the bill should be revised. The AMCNO has submitted background information and written documentation to the Senator in an effort to assure that the bill will include appropriate physician supervision provisions as well as take into consideration quality of care and patient safety issues. The AMCNO continues to be involved in these discussions and we will keep our membership informed on this issue.
