AMCNO Salutes Our Members on Doctor’s Day – March 30, 2009

The AMCNO joins with patients, friends, family and colleagues on National Doctors' Day in expressing gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the region’s 9,000 plus physicians. In the United States, March 30 has come to be known as a day when Americans can gratefully remember physicians and express appreciation for their continuing commitment to exceptional medical care. Physicians are on the frontlines everyday providing care to the thousands of patients in our community. During each patient visit the physician is called upon to be a skilled healer, trusted confidant and patient advocate.

Doctors' Day was first observed in 1933 as a local celebration in Barrow County, Georgia, to commemorate the date that Crawford W. Long, MD, administered the first ether anesthetic for surgery on March 30, 1842. In 1990, the United States Congress passed a resolution regarding Doctors’ Day which stated in part that society owes a great debt of gratitude to physicians for the contributions of physicians in enlarging the reservoir of scientific knowledge, increasing the number of scientific tools, and expanding the ability of health professionals to use the knowledge and tools effectively in the never ending fight against disease.

March 30th, National Doctor’s Day, is a day set aside to show appreciation for the role of physicians in caring for the sick and advancing the art and science of medicine. The AMCNO thanks all of our members in this region who have dedicated their lives to the health and well being of their patients.
