| Periodic bulletins will be issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in an effort to prevent the flu vaccine shortage of the past season.
Since new viruses emerge each flue season, each new season's batch of immunizations must be manufactured to include one or more of those viruses so as to differ from the vaccine of the previous year. Bulletins will offer developments on these variations for the 2001-2002 season.
Due to these variations, specifics regarding this year's flu season will be unavailable until the fall. All physicians are encouraged to consider their contigency plans as soon as possible. Physicians who handle high amounts of flu immunizations, especially those serving high risk populations, are asked to read and share the information in the CDC bulletins so as to plan most effectively for this year's season. |
