| This week Gov. Ted Strickland ordered the creation of a health care information advisory panel and charged it with recommending ways the state can improve the flow of data among patients and providers. The Governor has directed the Ohio Health Information Partnership Advisory Board with developing an operational plan. The idea is to include a business proposal to create public/private organization to coordinate a strategy for using electronic health records and information. The plan will also help guide legislative and regulatory actions, maximize federal funding for information technology, identify obstacles, and address the privacy and security of health information, the order states. The panel, which will be chaired by the state chief information officer, will include two members each from the House and Senate representing both parties. Gov. Strickland will appoint additional members from the Ohio Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration Steering Committee and other public or private sector representatives to sit on the committee, which he orders to meet at least once every two months.
