AMC/NOMA Annual Seminar to Address Timely Topics for Area Physicians

The AMC/NOMA’s annual seminar, scheduled for Feb. 17 at the Embassy Suites in Independence, will feature renown national speakers and address issues of great importance to physicians and the patients they serve. The 2006 program, titled, “Riding the Wave of Change in the Practice of Medicine,” will cover a range of issues from Health Information Technology and Quality Improvement measures, to Electronic Health Records and Pay-for-Performance initiatives.  Moderated by President George E. Kikano, MD, scheduled presenters include:  Dennis O’Leary, MD, President, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Trent Haywood, MD, Deputy Chief Clinical Officer, Office of Clinical Standards, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), C. Martin Harris, MD, MBA, Chief Information Officer and Chairman of the Information Technology Division of the Cleveland Clinic, and Steven Waldren, MD, Assistant Director of the Center for Health Information Technology of the American Academy of Family Physicians.Attendees can expect to come away with a greater understanding of such matters as why practice-based EHRs are essential in quality measurement and improvement, why information technology is a key enabler of such improvement and how proposed Medicare payment programs will expand and change in the coming years. During the luncheon hour, AMC/NOMA lobbyists Mike Wise and Michael Caputo will provide an update of recent legislative and regulatory initiatives affecting the practice of medicine in Ohio and offer proactive ways to work toward legislative reform in the state.
