Taft Signs Prescriptive Authority for Physician Assistants

Governor Bob Taft on Tuesday signed into law SB 154, giving prescriptive authority to physician assistants throughout the state of Ohio. Sponsored by Sen. Lynn Wachtmann, it included the establishment of physician-delegated prescriptive authority and modifies the authority of advanced practice nurses to furnish supplies of drugs to patients.  Much-contested over the last decade in the state house, the new law will take effect in 90 days from the signing this week.
