About half of the nation's HMOs again report rising profits, but they still expect to impose double-digit rate increases next year, two separate studies show.
InterStudy Publications in St. Paul, Minn. says in a new report that about half of all HMOs reported profitability of 1.7% or more in 2002, continuing a five-year trend in which profitability has been increasing at a rate of about 0.5% per year.
