The AMC/NOMA was inundated with telephone calls from physicians and the public alike last week after an advertisement appeared in the Plain Dealer listing an independent group of physicians that supported presidential candidate John Kerry. Although the advertisement stated at the bottom how the ad was funded, many callers thought that physicians from the AMC/NOMA had prepared and ran the ad. To clarify – the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland/Northern Ohio Medical Association (AMC/NOMA), like the AMA, has not endorsed one presidential candidate over another and we had nothing to do with the advertisement that appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The AMC/NOMA, again like the AMA, supports a cap of $250,000 on noneconomic damages as well as a cap on attorney contingency fees. The AMC/NOMA continues to support medical liability reform as our top priority and we continue to support legislation and other initiatives favorable to tort reform in the state of Ohio.
