The current shortage of flu vaccine has been caused by an unprecedented demand, and an active and early flu season. In response, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has prepared suggestions for prioritizing the immunization of children with the remaining supply of influenza vaccine. This guidance may need to be modified as more information becomes available and the influenza season progresses. You will find updates at: http://www.aap.org
In addition, the Health Industry Distributors Association has made available a list of vaccine distributors to assist in the search for additional influenza vaccine if needed. http://www.hida.org/govtrelations/flulinks.asp
Please note that parent information is being created to assist you in speaking with parents who may have questions about the vaccine shortage, as well as risk to their healthy children and what they can do to reduce the likelihood of disease. Please check the AAP Web site at http://www.aap.org in the next few days for this and other information.
