Mark Your Calendars for the Volunteers in Health Care Teleworkshop, Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - on Thursday, Dec. 2

Are your clinical volunteers interested in medical malpractice coverage for their volunteer activities? Does your clinic currently pay for insurance for these volunteers? Is your clinic struggling to find new volunteers -actively practicing or retired - who are interested in your efforts but unable to secure malpractice coverage for their volunteer clinical care? Are you a clinician who would like to volunteer at a nonprofit organization providing health care to the uninsured but unsure how this might impact your insurance premiums? If so, this teleworkshop is for you. The US Department of Health and Human Services recently launched a new federal program (Free Clinic FTCA Medical Malpractice Program) designed to provide medical malpractice coverage to clinical volunteers at free clinics across the country. This Volunteers in Health Care teleworkshop, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 2 from 2 - 3:30 p.m., will help you determine if this program is appropriate for your clinicians and explain how to apply for coverage. Shannon Dunne Faltens, JD, from the Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Primary Health Care will provide information about this new federal program and answer your questions. Ms. Faltens will be joined by Volunteers in Health Care's Gayle Goldin and Paul Hattis, MD, JD, MPH for a discussion of how this program is likely to affect free clinics across the country. The cost to participate in the teleworkshop is $25 per phone line. Payment can be payable by check, VISA, or MasterCard. To register for the call, please visit www.volunteersinhealthcare.org  to fill-out the registration form. Please note, for credit card payments, FAX the registration form and credit card information.
