Medical Board Rule Alert

 Physician-Patient Relationship Termination Rule-Effective September 30, 2006

Rule 4731-27-01, the physician-patient relationship termination rule, went into effect September 30, 2006.

Physicians should note that there are provisions in rule 4731-27-01 that outline several steps that must be taken when a physician terminates a relationship with a patient. The AMCNO recommends that physicians review the rules carefully – and if you or your staff have any questions regarding the new rules please contact the AMCNO.

The AMCNO sent several letters to the OSMB in response to the proposed rules. Some of our concerns were responded to by the OSMB – other requested changes were not made to the rules.
