Medical Liability Market Update

The A.M Best Company has upgraded Medical Protective to their highest rating, “A++ Superior,” as announced this week in a press release from the medical professional liability insurance company. Based in Fort Wayne, IN, A.M. Best was cited as possessing a “leading market presence, distribution capabilities, aggressive claims philosophy and comparatively strong operating performance,” along with the support provided by its parent, Berkshire Hathaway (which acquired Medical Protective in June 2005). The company’s CEO Timothy Kenesey responded to the upgrade by stating, “We appreciate recognition of our unmatched strength, and remain committed to giving healthcare providers across the country a rock-solid foundation in what continues to be a volatile medical malpractice segment.”
