According to a recent survey conducted by the Medical Liability Monitor, rates in Cuyahoga/Lorain counties are still among the highest in the country. Although the survey data shows that medical liability insurance rates have dropped in some areas of the nation, the report showed that more than half of premiums did not change. In addition, the data showed that some internists, general surgeons and ob-gyns in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties still pay among the highest rates in the nation at $44,467, $157,039 and $190,505 respectively. Florida had the highest rates in those three specialties. The survey asked major carriers to report their manual rates as of July 1 for mature claims-made policies with limits of $1 million/$3 million for the three specialties. This data illustrates why the AMCNO continues to monitor and review the medical liability landscape in Northern Ohio as well as possible alternatives to the current court system. |
