According to Manhattan Research, a healthcare marketing information and services firm, most doctors don't e-mail patients. The group recently released analysis titled "The Connected Physician: Email, Communication and Connectivity" from interviews with more than 1,200 physicians and found that only 8 percent of doctors regularly e-mail their patients. The report claims some 85 percent of doctors currently use e-mail to communicate with other physicians, drug companies, hospitals, insurers and other professionals. The number of doctors who e-mail patients, however, has barely increased in the past two years. The report identifies key areas that need to be better understood: liability concerns, patient satisfaction and acceptable reimbursement models.
