North Carolina governor expected to sign medical-malpractice legislation |

North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley (D) is expected to sign legislation this month that will mark one of the few times the state's legal and medical professions have reached a consensus on medical-malpractice reform. If approved, the legislation would take effect Jan. 1 and will cap monetary damages in medical malpractice cases at $1 million when both sides agree to settle a claim through binding arbitration. The AMCNO is monitoring the status of this legislation and how it could assist the AMCNO is garnering additional support for SB 59 – the mandatory arbitration legislation under review in Ohio. |
