NPI Lookup starts August 1st

Physicians may begin to look up other physicians’ NPI numbers on August 1st, but CMS will not have the full downloadable file of all NPIs available until mid-August. The NPI registry will be available through the National Plan and Provider Enumeration Systems (NPPS), and it is anticipated that it will work like the UPIN registry. The information in the NPI registry will be updated and changed as it is processed through NPPS.
