Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) Releases Insurance Rate Data for 2007 |

|
The ODI has released data that shows that medical malpractice insurance rates have declined in some areas of the state, including some specialties in Northern Ohio. However, upon review, at least one company has raised rates in Northern Ohio for two specialties while the rates of at least one other company has remained steady for several other specialties in the Northern Ohio area. The AMCNO is pleased to note that rates may have declined in some specialties, however, more than likely the rates will never be lowered enough to offset the huge increases that have occurred over the past five years. The AMCNO worked hard to achieve passage of several tort reform initiatives in Ohio and we are pleased that the rates are beginning to trend downward, however, there is still more that could be done to offset the medical liability problems in Ohio. Therefore, the AMCNO plans to continue to work toward legislation in Ohio that would offer an alternative dispute resolution process, similar to the process outlined in SB 59. For more information on SB 59 go to the AMCNO web site at www.amcnoma.org. |
