Ohio Hospitals Introduce Information Sharing Effort to Reduce Infections and Errors

Ohio hospitals and businesses have teamed up to launch a new collaboration designed to share information about ways the institutions can reduce patient infections and medication errors. Known as the Solutions for Patient Safety, this collaboration that includes 16 central Ohio hospitals will first focus on reducing infections associated with catheters and a certain antibiotic-resistant bacteria, the group said. Meanwhile, the eight children’s hospitals will target infection rates for cardiac, neurosurgery, and orthopedic procedures and seek to eliminate medication errors.

The group supports requirements for hospitals to share more information among themselves and to offer the public more access to data about the quality and the cost of their services. For more information on the partnership go to http://www.solutionsforpatientsafety.org/
