Every year the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) publishes a work plan announcing where it will focus its resources. Among OIG's agenda items for 2005 are:
Review the relationships between billing companies and physicians to determine the impact of billing company arrangements on physician billings. Examine patterns of physician coding of evaluation and management services to determine whether these services were coded accurately; Examine Medicare Part A and Part B claims with overlapping services for SNF patients to determine if duplicate payments are being made.
