From the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) - The 2009 H1N1 vaccine situation changes rapidly – throughout each day, vaccine is being shipped from the vaccine manufacturers to McKesson distribution centers; orders are coming into McKesson; orders are being processed and shipped; and vaccine is arriving in thousands of places across the country. - McKesson, the distributor for the 2009 H1N1 vaccine, is increasing the number of delivery sites from 90,000 to 150,000. As of Friday, October 9, all states and the District of Columbia have placed orders for 2009 H1N1 vaccine, and more orders are expected daily. - While the national picture reveals good supply and rapid distribution, local areas may not have received as much seasonal vaccine as they anticipated at this point in the season and providers seeking additional vaccine now may be unable to purchase it. For more information about seasonal supply, please refer to IVATS http://www.preventinfluenza.org/ivats/ over the coming weeks. - Approximately 77 million doses of seasonal flu vaccine have been distributed, as of October 2, 2009. This is approximately 61% of the doses that are expected to be distributed for this season. To obtain more updates from the CDC on H1N1 go to www.cdc.gov/flu Ohio - The Ohio Department of Health is encouraging health care works with direct patient contact to pre-register for vaccination. Preregisters could reduce the amount of time spent at the facility where you receive your vaccine; improve accuracy, enable you to be notified when your facility has vaccines available, enables you to be notified when to receive your second dose, enables you to retrieve your record on this system, and enables public health to plan for how much product is necessary for each facility. The ODH has an on-line system for pre-registration for individuals who wish to receive the H1N1 vaccine. The pre-registration process requires a printer and the printed form should be presented when you receive your vaccine. To pre-register or to view additional information on H1N1 in Ohio go to the ODH H1N1 vaccine Web site at https://h1n1vaccine.odh.ohio.gov/ Coding H1N1 - With both seasonal influenza and H1N1 influenza circulating this flu season, the American Medical Association (AMA) has announced that it has expedited the publication of a new code specific to vaccine administration and revised existing code 90663 to include the H1N1 vaccine. The new Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code issued by the AMA will streamline the reporting and reimbursement procedure for physicians and health care providers who are expected to administer nearly 200 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine in the United States. The codes will also help to efficiently report and track immunization and counseling services related to the H1N1 vaccine throughout the health care system. In consultation with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the AMA CPT Editorial Panel created code 90470 to report H1N1 immunization administration and counseling. Code 90663 was revised by the CPT Editorial Panel to refer specifically to the H1N1 vaccine product. Both, revised code 90663 and Category I CPT Code 90470 are effective immediately. For quick reference, the two codes are below:
