Privacy Groups: Banks could have Improper Access to Health Info

Privacy advocates this week called on HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson to uphold the HIPAA privacy regulation over concerns that financial institutions could access protected health information. The groups are "especially alarmed" that financial institutions could use this information for their own data mining purposes, according to a letter from the Health Privacy Project and the Electronic Privacy Information Center.
