The Tenet Healthcare Corporation, which for months has been the subject of a Justice Department inquiry, is now being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as for its Medicare billing and financial disclosures dating back to 1997.
Tenet, the nation's second-biggest health care chain, disclosed it had received a formal subpoena for documents from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The announcement follows a statement Tenet made in November indicating it was the target of an informal investigation by the Commission.
In a four-paragraph statement, Tenet said it intended to comply with the SEC subpoena. The documents relate to Medicare payments and increases in gross charges, as well as Tenet's financial statements and other disclosures
