Debate continues on the Senate floor regarding H.R. 3590, the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act." Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced plans to convene the Senate daily through this weekend and next, and on some days during the holiday weeks of Dec. 21 and Dec. 28, if necessary, to achieve final passage of the bill before the end of the year. At last count, 92 proposed amendments to the bill had been officially filed, although it is not certain how many of them will actually be voted upon. As the floor debate continues, Sen. Reid is in the process of developing a manager's amendment that is expected to reflect compromises reached on a range of controversial issues that need to be resolved to secure final passage. Amendments require 60 votes to be adopted. To view a side by side analysis of the different health care reform bills go to http://www.kff.org/healthreform/sidebyside.cfm |
