Survey of Hospital CIOs Shows Low Level of Support for Donations

Healthcare IT reports that only 38% of hospital CIOs say their organization plans to or has taken advantage of exemptions in the Stark Act and anti-kickback laws to donate information technology and services to physicians, a new survey shows. The survey of 117 CIOs, conducted by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, Ann Arbor, Mich., found that 62% of respondents have no plans to take advantage of the change in regulations. Many respondents indicated that they were waiting for guidance from the Internal Revenue Service on whether making IT donations would jeopardize an organization’s not-for-profit status.
