Nearly 8,000 physicians, including two former U.S. surgeons general, are calling
for a government-run health insurance system that would cover the entire nation.
In an article in today's edition of the New England Journal of Medicine, the
doctors argue that their system would save at least $200 billion yearly by
eliminating administrative costs and profits that go to private insurers. The
doctors say those savings could be used to cover the nation's 41 million
uninsured.
The American Medical Association does not agree with the information
contained the article.
