The unregulated Internet is a big source for consumer drug information and misinformation. At present advertising is based on print standards that may be antiquated for the medium. Unlike print and TV advertising, web ads are viewed because the viewer has requested it. The Internet will continue to be a growing source for drug information that should be monitored. The FDA has been focusing its attention on drug labeling at present before it takes an in depth view of direct-to-consumer Internet advertising. The Federal Trade Commission has requested a separate guidance for Internet with regulations consistent to other media.
